RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team went 1-1 to open its 2026 season against St. Mary's College and Elmhurst University on Friday in Ellie Bewley Stadium.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 11 ST. MARY'S 12
Kamdyn DePew started game one of the season, and threw 2.2 innings with eight hits, one earned run and one strikeout.
Tatum Rickert tossed 4.1 innings in relief with six strikeouts and one earned run.
Emmerie Stump went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Bo Shelton went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, one RBI, two walks, and a steal.
Kymara Kennedy tallied two hits with one RBI and two steals.
After leading 1-0 in the first inning, the Belles tallied four runs in the second inning, including a grand slam with two outs. The Quakers got one run back in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by
Malaya Tanglao with the bases loaded.
St. Mary's then scored five runs on five hits and two errors in the top of the third inning to take a 10-1 lead. The Quakers brought in four runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame, including the only extra-base hit of the game for the Quakers, a two-run double by
Drew Tubesing.
Rickert delivered two scoreless innings, and the Quakers tallied five runs on two hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tubesing put another fly ball in play that brought home two runs on a dropped fly ball, and
Mackenzie Harvey tied the game by scoring on a wild pitch.
The Belles scored two runs after an infield single turned into extra bases on a throwing error, and carried its lead into the final frame. Shelton led off the bottom of the seventh with an infield single, and worked her way around the bases to score on a groundout by Tubesing.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 8 ELMHURST 0 (5 Innings)
Shelby Messer went the distance for the first time in her career, tossing five scoreless innings with three hits and six strikeouts.
Tanglao went 2-for-3 in game two with one run scored. Stump tallied two hits and two RBI with a stolen base.
Jade Green scored two runs with one RBI in her Quaker debut, and Caitlin Brooks went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run scored and a walk.
After three scoreless innings, Earlham scored five runs on six hits, all with two outs, in the top of the fourth.
Michaela King hit an RBI-double to center field for the first run of the game, Shelton then brought home two runs with a pinch-hit double to left field. Shelton scored after a single from Brooks. Stump rounded out the scoring with an RBI-single to center field.
Leading 5-0, the Quakers tallied three runs on three hits in the fifth inning.
Faith Butler led off the frame with a hit, and advanced on a wild pitch before
Mikala Newland came in as a pinch runner. Green singled to bring Newland home, and Brooks earned a walk with the bases loaded. Stump then tallied another RBI with an infield single with the bases loaded for the final run of the day.
Earlham hosts St. Mary's and Elmhurst again tomorrow beginning at 10:30 am.
