FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team improved to 6-1 in conference play with a 15-5 win at Franklin College on Sunday afternoon.
Cayman Huntsman started the game on the mound, and threw four innings with three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts for the win.
Lane Willoughby threw the final five innings without allowing a run to pick up his first career save. The freshman surrendered just four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Sean Jeffries went 3-3 with two runs scored and two steals.
Austin Dick tallied two hits with four RBI and one run scored.
After a two-out error in the bottom of the second inning, Franklin scored two runs on an outfield double.
In the top of the third, Jeffries sent a one-out single to center field, and stole second.
Mitchell Roether, who took sole possession of third place in program history for career home runs yesterday, was intentionally walked with first base open.
Noah Rosato then plated the first Quaker run of the game with a single to right field.
The Quakers then added four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning after a pair of hits by
Jonathan Jimenez and
Noah Wagster to open the frame. Dick earned an RBI on a groundout with runners on base, and
Chris Barnett hit a sacrifice fly to take the lead.
Roether hit an RBI-single, and Rosato put a ball in play that scored
Jackson McFarland for a 5-2 Quaker lead.
Mac Moore came in to pinch hit with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, and earned an RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Franklin hit a three-run home run with no outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trail by just one run before Willoughby entered the contest and scored three straight outs.
Leading 6-5, Dick plated a run in the top of the seventh on a fly ball to right field. Barnett then hit an infield single for another RBI to give the Quakers an 8-5 lead.
Dick opened a seven-run ninth inning with a one-out solo homer to left field. A Roether intentional walk loaded the bases for Rucker Willaims to earn an RBI on a free base.
Dylan Rieck launched a grand slam to left field with two outs for a 14-5 lead. The Grizzlies then gave up two walks, before Dick scored an RBI-single to third base.
The Quakers continue play on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against DePauw University at 6 pm in Sadler Stadium.
