LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Earlham College men's lacrosse team took an overtime loss at Spalding University 9-8 on Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers led 6-3 midway through the third quarter, and led 8-7 with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Robbie Gift opened the scoring with a goal just 90 seconds into the game.
Ryan Polack and
Giovanni Randazzo then each found the back of the cage early in the second quarter for a 3-1 Quaker lead. Polack scored one more goal in the second to give the Quakers a 4-2 halftime lead.
Cape McAlhaney scored on a man-up opportunity for a 6-3 lead with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Golden Eagles then scored one goal in the third, and two goals in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. Gift gave the Quakers a lead with a man-up goal with nine minutes remaining in the fourth, but Spalding equalized with three minutes remaining.
With 43 seconds left in the first overtime period, Spalding scored a game-winning goal.
Polack led the Quakers with three goals while Gift and Randazzo each scored two goals with an assist.
Liam McGlynn led the back line with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Saxon Coleman won eight faceoffs with six ground balls.
Ryan Dolafi made 18 saves in goal.
The Quakers host Transylvania University for their final game of the season on Sunday afternoon.
