RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team completed a weekend sweep of Berea College to hold on to first place in the conference standings with a 10-0 win in seven innings on Sunday.
Cayman Huntsman tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit in seven innings of work while scoring six strikeouts.
Austin Dick led the Quakers at the plate with three hits, a triple, three runs scored and an RBI.
Jonathan Jimenez tallied two hits, a double, a walk and four steals.
Sean Jeffries homered over the Maroon Monster on just the second pitch of the game. Earlham then recorded two more hits in the bottom of the first inning for an RBI on a groundout by
Mitchell Roether.
Jeffries earned another RBI with a groundout with two runners on in the bottom of the second inning.
Roether launched a solo homer that nearly cleared the parking lot in left field to open the bottom of the third inning. With 24 career long balls, Roether is now just two away from the program record for homers in a career.
Jackson McFarland then hit a ground-rule double to center field, and scored on a groundout by Dick for a 5-0 lead.
Dick reached base with a one-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning, and stole second before a
Dylan Rieck home run over the Monster for a 7-0 lead.
McFarland plated a run in the bottom of the sixth inning after a leadoff walk by Jimenez.
Noah Rosato then hit a two-out home run to center field.
Leading 9-0 to open the bottom of the seventh inning, Dick hit a leadoff triple into the center field gap. Rieck earned a walk, and
Chris Barnett hit a walk-off single to right field for the final run of the game.
The Quakers host Wabash College for a non-conference game Tuesday at 4 pm. At 12-1, the Quakers sit firmly atop the HCAC standings, and welcome second-place Transylvania University to Sadler Stadium on Saturday for a doubleheader. The Pioneers have a 9-2 conference mark after dropping Sunday's game at Hanover College.
