RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team cruised to a 14-4 win over Wabash College in seven innings on Tuesday evening.
Lane Willoughby tossed the first two innings of the contest, striking out two while allowing three earned runs on four hits.
Christopher Snider threw the next three frames with one hit and three strikeouts.
Nick Sullivan and
Garret Odey each shouldered one inning with three combined strikeouts.
Noah Wagster went 2-3 with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBI.
Sean Jeffries went 3-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, and
Chris Barnett went 2-4 with his first career homer and two RBI.
As a team,the Quakers passed the 2016 squad for second on the all-time list with 35 home runs this season.
The Little Giants plated three runs on three hits in the top of the first inning, but the Quakers responded in the bottom of the second with five runs on two hits. After the Quakers loaded the bases with two outs, Jeffries hit his 12th career triple to tie Ted Williams and Isaiah Shake for the top mark in program history which tied the game at three.
Jonathan Jimenez put a ball in play for another run, and
Mitchell Roether drove in Jimenez on a single to left field.
Wagster led off the bottom of the third inning with a deep home run to center field for a 6-3 lead, and Jeffries opened the scoring in the fourth inning with an infield single for an RBI.
Tucker Williams drove in a run on an infield groundout, and Wagster launched his second long ball of the day over the Maroon Monster. Barnett followed with a solo shot to left field for an 11-3 lead.
The Quakers scored on a balk in the bottom of the fifth inning, and freshman
Jake Cane earned an RBI on a pinch hit to right field with two outs.
Trailing 13-3, Wabash hit a solo home run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Noah Rosato hit a leadoff double, and
Milan Desai came in as a pinch runner. The freshman then scored the walk-off run on an outfield single by Barnett with two outs.
At 19-8, the Quakers head into a busy weekend of conference play that will factor into the final conference standings. Earlham (12-1) hosts Transylvania (9-2) on Saturday for a doubleheader in Sadler Stadium at noon. The Quakers then travel to Anderson (8-4) for a doubleheader on Sunday. The three teams currently sit atop the HCAC Standings with three weekends remaining in the schedule.
