RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team surged in the eighth inning for a 4-1 win over Principia College on Tuesday evening in Sadler Stadium.
Lane Willoughby continued his impressive freshman season with four innings pitched, three hits and one earned run. The freshman righty struck out three batters.
Nick Sullivan kept a scoreless two innings with one K while
Christopher Snider took the win with three innings of one-hit baseball and four strikeouts.
Tucker Williams led the Quakers at the plate with two hits, two doubles and two RBI.
Eric Echeverria went 2-3 with a steal.
Principia hit a one-out double in the top of the second inning, and brought the run home on an infield groundout to take the lead.
Brock Loveall led off the bottom of the third inning with the first hit of the day for the Quakers. The sophomore then scored after a double steal by the Quakers drew an errant throw by the Panther catcher.
Tied 1-1,
Chris Barnett earned a two-out walk in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a
Sean Jeffries walk, Earlham executed a double steal to set the table for
Mitchell Roether. Roether put a ball in play in the infield that got past the Principia shortstop to score a run, and allow Roether to reach safely. Williams then delivered his second double of the night with a deep ball down the left field line. Both Quaker baserunners came home on the play for a 4-1 lead.
Earlham continues HCAC action on Saturday to begin a three-game set against Berea College. First pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 12 pm.
