GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team took a thrilling five-set win at Denison University on Tuesday evening.
Three Quakers reached double-digit kills, led by freshman Ciera Logan with 17. Logan tallied a .394 hitting percentage with three blocks.
Caylee Brandes scored 15 kills, swinging .231 with two blocks.
Sadie Mae Calma scored 16 kills with a .333 attack percentage and 19 assists.
Emma Ledford led the setters with 29 assists and one ace. In the back row,
Madison Bizjak collected 24 digs while
Grace Gwin brought in 14.
As a team, Earlham scored 60 kills with a .278 attack percentage.
The Big Red opened the night with a 25-22 win in set one after posting 13 kills and five errors. The Quakers led 12-9 before six straight points by Denison. Trailing 18-17, Denison scored an 8-4 run to end the set.
The Quakers came back in set two with a 25-23 win, swinging .375 as a team. Denison committed three attack errors in a row in the middle of a 5-0 Quaker run to take a 19-18 lead. The Quakers then jumped out to an 18-11 lead in set three to win consecutive sets.
The Big Red held Earlham to a measly .083 attack percentage in set four to cruise to a 25-15 set win and force a final deciding frame. The Quakers came out to a 9-3 lead, and committed no errors on 10 kills to take a 15-9 win and claim the match.
Earlham will continue action on Friday evening at Indiana University East. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
