RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's soccer team picked up a 3-1 win over Heidelberg University on Friday evening in Matlack-Messer Stadium.
Following a weather delay, the match started about 40 minutes after scheduled.
John De La O led the high powered offense with six shots, and three on goal.
Mason Paul netted the first goal of the game after the Quakers earned a penalty kick in the 32nd minute of play.
After heading into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead, De La O connected with
Russell Saravia for a goal on a cross in front of the Student Princes penalty area in the 66th minute. The Student Princes scored a goal in the 73rd minute on a set piece play, but the Quakers responded in the 84th minute with the first career goal by
Kayden Minnick-Maclure. Minnick-Maclure was set up by
Eduardo Martinez with a cross across the front of the goal after Martinez took the ball from the Heidelberg defense.
Earlham led the game in shots 16-11, placing nine of those shots on target.
Joshua Gandee anchored the Quaker defense, making four saves in goal.
The Quakers continue action on Sunday at 12 pm against Albion College in Matlack-Messer Stadium.
