CHICAGO, Ill. – The Earlham College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to open the Rosalie Resch Invitational at the University of Chicago on Friday.
MATCH ONE: EARLHAM 1 CHICAGO 3 (25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18)
Sadie Mae Calma posted a team-high 10 kills with a .250 attack percentage while also posing a threat in the set game with 10 assists. The freshman also tallied a team-high three blocks.
Addison Piatt scored nine kills with a team-high 16 digs in the back line.
Emma Ledford led the setters with 17 assists and an ace, while also collecting 14 digs.
Madison Bizjak brought in 16 digs as the Quaker libero.
After two 25-18 set losses to open the match, Earlham attacked early in set three to take an 8-3 lead. The Maroons came back, but Earlham then scored a 5-1 run to lead 16-12. Chicago then scored to bring the score to 21-20, but the Quakers ended the frame on a 4-1 run, including a kill by
Charish Minor to end the frame.
MATCH TWO: EARLHAM 0 TRINE 3 (25-16, 25-22, 25-19)
Caylee Brandes paced the offense in the nightcap with 11 kills, a .233 attack percentage and one block. Piatt swung .375 with seven kills and just one error.
Ledford tallied a team-high 12 assists and Bizjak led the back row with 19 digs.
The Quakers will be back in action tomorrow with a pair of games to conclude the tournament. Earlham is set to take on Edgewood College at 12 pm and Concordia Wisconsin at 2:30.
