    RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College field hockey squad took 
Denison University into overtime Friday on Comstock Field, but the Quakers came up on the short end of a 4-3 decision.
The Quakers got off to a quick start in the North Coast Athletic Conference match when 
Christine Fergusonscored at 5:17. 
Kate Birdsalladded a goal at 7:49 to give Earlham a 2-0 lead.
Denison (4-3, 3-2) scored two goals later in the first half to tie the contest by intermission.
The Big Red scored at 41:30 to go on top 3-2. Earlham quickly responded when 
Cassie Gage scored at 42:29 with Birdsall assisting on the play.
In the extra session, 
Denison scored the game-winner at 80:08. Earlham goalkeeper 
Emma Treece had seven saves.
 Earlham held a 21-19 edge in shots, but 
Denison led 15-13 in penalty corners.
The Quakers (2-3, 0-3) entertain 
Transylvania University Saturday. The non-conference contest gets underway at 1 p.m.
