SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Three second half goals were the difference on Tuesday as the
Earlham College field hockey team fell 5-2 to
Wittenberg University.
The North Coast Athletic Conference match was tied 2-2 at intermission before the Tigers (4-2, 2-2) scored three times to put the contest away.
Kate Birdsall gave the Quakers a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 15:14. It was her fifth score of the season.
Wittenberg tied the contest at 16:20.
Cassie Gage put Earlham back on top with her seventh goal of the fall at 31:06.
Chrissy Sollenberger assisted on the play. The Tigers, however, quickly answered with their second goal at 31:48.
Gage has 30 goals, which puts her in second place on Earlham's all-time list as she passed Melissa Muller (1991-94), who had 29. Gage also has 72 points, which places her in front of Gina Reif (1990-92), who had 70. Martha Kerrick (1983-86) holds both of the all-time marks with 42 goals and 89 points.
In the second period,
Wittenberg took the lead for good at 42:54 and added a pair of scores the rest of the way.
Wittenberg led 30-11 in shots and 15-8 in penalty corners. Earlham goalkeeper
Emma Treece had 14 saves for the Quakers.
Earlham (3-4, 0-4) entertains
Oberlin College Saturday on Comstock Field. The NCAC match gets underway at 2 p.m.
