Quakers Fall to Tigers

RICHMOND, Ind.The Earlham College baseball team finished its weekend with a pair of losses on Sunday to Wittenberg University at McBride Stadium.

Wittenberg won the opener of the North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader 5-0 and took the second contest 4-1.

In the opener, Earlham pitcher Justin Broach held the Tigers (8-4, 4-0) hitless for the first four frames. The initial Wittenberg hit came in the fifth inning, but the Tigers were unable to score.

Unfortunately for the Quakers, Wittenberg did score three times in the sixth and added two more in the seventh.

For the game, Earlham stranded 10 runners on base. The Quakers had opportunities to score in every inning except the fourth, but they were unable to produce a run.

Chris Baumann and Nate Reynolds led the Quakers with two hits apiece.

Broach (0-3) worked 5? innings, giving up two runs on two hits, while Corey Murray finished the last 1? innings on the mound for the Quakers.

Game Two

All of the scoring in the second game was in the first two innings. The Tigers grabbed an early advantage with two unearned runs in the top of the first.

Earlham scored in the bottom of the frame to make it 2-1 on Murray's RBI groundout.

Wittenberg added the final pair of runs in the second off Earlham starter Ross Yoho (0-1), who left after two innings. Conner Gable blanked the Tigers the rest of the way, while giving up three hits.

From that point, the Quakers had chances to score in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but couldn't get a runner home.

Baumann and Andrew Morrical topped the Quakers with two hits each.

Carr Now Tied at Top of Hit List

With a single in the opener, Jake Carr tied Eric Sturgeon (2005-08) as Earlham's all-time leader in hits (since 1974) with 154.

Earlham (1-10, 0-4) visits Denison University on Saturday. The first game of the NCAC twinbill is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
