Earlham Falls to Defiance

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind.A slow start hurt the Earlham College baseball team on Wednesday as the Quakers fell to Defiance College 14-5 in non-conference action at McBride Stadium.

Defiance (12-11) picked up five runs in the first inning and added six more in the second to build an 11-0 advantage. The Yellow Jackets scores another run in the third.

The Quakers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Adam Painter walked with two outs to start the rally. After Nate Chandler walked, Justin Broach had an infield single to second to load the bases.

Gilbert Ambler doubled home a pair of runs. Broach scored the last run of the frame on a wild pitch.

Earlham's final runs of the contest came in the ninth when Jake Carr knocked in two with a double.

Ambler, Broach and Carr led the Quakers with two hits each.

Painter (4-5) was the starter on the mound for the Quakers and took the loss.

Earlham (7-19) entertains Robert Morris University-Springfield on Saturday. The non-conference doubleheader at McBride Stadium gets underway at 1 p.m.
