Quakers Finish NCAC West Series at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, OhioThe Earlham College baseball team dropped a pair of contests on Saturday as the Quakers finished their North Coast Athletic Conference West Division series at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Bishops took the first contest 4-2 and followed with a 20-2 win in the second game.

In the opener, Earlham took a lead in the top of the first inning. Andrew Morrical led off the game with a single. After stealing second, he moved to third on a groundout by Nate Reynolds.

Jake Carr hit a sacrifice fly to give the Quakers a 1-0 advantage. For Carr, it was the 91st RBI of his career. He is one from tying Bobby Ebright (1995-1997) on the top of Earlham's all-time RBI list at 92.

Ohio Wesleyan (10-12, 5-3) scored once in each of the first three frames to take a 3-1 lead.

Corey Murray closed the gap to 3-2 with a home run to left field in the fourth inning.

The Bishops responded with another run in the bottom of the fourth for the final tally of the contest.

Morrical led the Quakers with two hits. Adam Painter (3-3) tossed a complete game on the mound for the Quakers. He gave up four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

Game Two

The Quakers fell behind 5-0 early in the second game before surrendering 11 runs in the third inning. The Bishops added two more runs in the fifth.

Earlham got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning with Tyler Schroeder knocking in a run on a fielder's choice. Ohio Wesleyan added its final two runs in the bottom of the frame.

In the seventh, the Quakers scored their last run when Gilbert Ambler singled and the Ohio Wesleyan right fielder made an error that allowed him to go to second and Morrical to score.

Carr and Chris Baumann led the Quakers with two hits each. Earlham starter Shawn Kinnett (1-4), who pitched to one batter in the third inning before leaving the mound, took the loss.

The Quakers (4-15, 1-9) return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at McBride Stadium against Cincinnati Christian. The first game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
