TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The Earlham College women's tennis team split a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matches on Saturday as the Quakers beat Defiance College 9-0 before falling 6-3 to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The Quakers won nearly every game against Defiance (0-4, 0-4) except at No. 1 where
Rebecca Ogle defeated Kirsten Wieland 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (12-10).
Olivia Engle won 6-1, 6-0 over Catie Savage at No. 2.
Earlham won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and No. 4.
Nora Mineva beat Sammi Stevens, while
Alex Softness defeated Katie Caunchia.
Cory Mathieu won 6-4, 6-0 over Tasha Brown at No. 5 with
Bailey Hall sweeping Nicole Lovins 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
In doubles, Softness and Mineva won 8-2 over Wieland and Savage at No. 1. Hall and Mathieu were victorious 8-1 at No. 2 over Stevens and Lovins.
Jessica Childs and
Kayla Parks beat Caunchia and Danielle LaBarbara 8-4.
Against Rose-Hulman (4-1, 4-0), Softness won 6-2, 6-2 over Melissa Montgomery at No. 4 singles. The Quakers other victories came in doubles. Softness and Mineva defeated Megan Chann and Marie Stettler 9-8 (12-10) at No. 1. Ogle and Engle won 8-2 over Sage Sackett and Montgomery at No. 2.
Earlham (2-3, 1-3) returns to action next Saturday against HCAC foes Franklin College and Anderson University. The matches will be played in Anderson with the Franklin contest at noon. The Quakers face Anderson at 2 p.m.
