LEXINGTON, Ky. — A second half goal was the difference on Thursday as the Earlham College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Transylvania University.

With the score tied at 1-1 at intermission, Transylvania scored the winning goal at 48:11.

Transylvania (1-4) opened the scoring with a goal at 14:24 before the Quakers bounced back to tie the match.

Christine Ferguson had an unassisted goal at 16:40 for her second of the season.

Earlham goalkeeper Emma Treece had 22 saves, while Rhea Bovee and Zipporah Burns were credited with defensive saves.

“We were back on our heels playing defense for most of the game,” Earlham Head Coach Jill Butcher said. “Emma Treece, Rhea Bovee and Zipporah Burns just played fantastic.”

Transylvania led 35-4 in shots and 18-3 in penalty corners.

The Quakers (2-5) return home on Saturday for a North Coast Athletic Conference match against Kenyon College. The contest on Comstock Field begins at 1 p.m.
