Quakers Fall to Kenyon

RICHMOND, Ind. — Kenyon College scored four times in the first half Saturday as the Ladies defeated the Earlham College field hockey team 5-0.

Kenyon is 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

“I thought we got off to a very slow start,” Earlham Head Coach Jill Butcher said. “We weren't being aggressive offensively. At halftime, we made some adjustments and held Kenyon scoreless for 24 minutes.”

“Although we played better in the second half, our attack has got to come through for us,” Butcher added. “We have to retain possession of the ball to put points on the scoreboard. I thought Kate Birdsall played one of her best all-round games.”

Earlham goalkeeper Emma Treece (Kettering, OH, Kettering Fairmont) had 32 saves for the Quakers. Zipporah Burns (Beachwood, OH, Orange ) had a defensive save. “Defensively, Emma Treece and Zipporah Burns were rock solid,” Butcher said.

The Quakers (2-6, 0-5) face Ohio Wesleyan at home on Wednesday. The NCAC match begins at 4:30 p.m.
