RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College women's basketball team dropped an 81-56 decision to Transylvania University on Wednesday night.
Brittany Combs (Columbus, OH, Bishop Hartley) had a career-high 17 points for the Quakers in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
Natasha Norman (St. Louis, MO, Vashon) and
Bria Sneed (Indianapolis, IN, University) scored nine points each, while
Charvonne Long (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) added seven points.
Desire Hough (Bethlehem, PA, Saucon Valley) tossed in five points as she topped the Quakers in rebounds with seven.
The Pioneers scored the first 10 points of the contest and eventually built a 15-2 advantage with 15:08 left in the opening period.
Earlham managed to cut the deficit to 17-10 when Sneed drilled a 3-pointer at the 9:59 mark of the first half.
At that point, Transylvania (12-4, 7-2) widened its margin and had a 41-17 led at intermission.
After falling behind 51-21 with 16:17 left in the second half, the Quakers found some offense to close the gap to 61-47 when
Princess Darnell (Greenwood, IN, Bishop Chatard) scored at the 7:46 mark.
Unfortunately for the Quakers, that was a close as they would get as the Pioneers won to stay in second place in the HCAC standings.
The Quakers (0-16, 0-9) are on the road Saturday at Franklin College. The HCAC affair gets underway at 3 p.m.
