Quakers Visit Franklin for HCAC Opener

Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team began play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Friday as the Quakers fell 7-1 to Franklin College.

Earlham got behind early in the contest by giving up a pair of runs in the second inning. One inning later, Franklin scored five times to take a 7-0 advantage,

The Quakers got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Ross Yoho (Plainfield, IN, Plainfield) led off with a walk and Logan Kunkel (Oxford, OH, Talawanda) followed with a single.

Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) then hit a fly ball to center and as the runners tried to advance an error by Franklin allowed Yoho to score what turned out to be the final tally of the contest.

Kunkel and Andrew Morrical (Summitville, IN, Madison-Grant) led Earlham with two hits each. One of Morrical's hits was a triple. Yoho and Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) had doubles the Quakers.

Adam Warning (Ft. Wright, KY, Covington Catholic) started on the mound for the Quakers. Warning (0-1) gave up seven runs on four hits with two walks. Caleb Brown (Newark, OH, Granville) tossed the last five innings as he gave up a hit with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Quakers (6-6, 0-1) face Franklin again on Saturday to finish the three-game HCAC series. The opener of the doubleheader with the Grizzlies (9-3, 1-0) starts at noon.
