LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An unearned run was the difference on Tuesday as the Earlham College baseball team fell 1-0 at Spalding University in the opener of a doubleheader.
The second contest was rained out.
Spalding (3-2) scored in the bottom of the sixth on an error.
Adam Painter (Ft. Wayne, IN, Snider) went the distance on the mound for the Quakers as he suffered the loss to go to 1-1 on the season. In six innings, Painter gave up four hits, the one run with three strikeouts and a walk.
Painter moved into a tie for second place on Earlham's all-time career strikeout list with James Plyley (2001-2004) at 137. Dave Luptak (2001-2004) is at the top of the list with 140.
The Quakers had three hits with
Nate Chandler (Austin, IN, Austin ) smacking a double.
Tyler Schroeder and
Ross Yoho (Plainfield, IN, Plainfield) had singles.
Earlham (1-1) begins its Florida schedule on Sunday against Bethany College. The first game of the doubleheader in Ft. Pierce gets underway at 10 a.m.
