RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College men's tennis team won its second straight match on Thursday as the Quakers defeated Anderson University 9-0 on the EC Courts.
The Quakers began the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest by winning all of the doubles matches.
"We came out and played our best doubles of the season and that momentum after the sweep made a huge difference," Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee said. "This is a great win for us headed into the weekend."
Earlham (10-3, 2-1) visits Transylvania University (4-3, 3-0) on Saturday for a pair of HCAC matches. The Quakers face the HCAC leading Pioneers in the opening contest at 9 a.m. Transylvania has won 67 conference matches in a row and has not lost since 2002. Earlham meets Defiance College at noon.
On Thursday in doubles,
Henry Levin (Dallas, TX, Highland Park) and
Johnny Kauffman (Goshen, IN, Bethany Christian) beat Drew Lovern and Chris Rowe 8-1 at No. 1. At No. 2,
Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Tauranga Boys) and
Mike Von Vogt (South Bristol, ME, Lincoln Academy) defeated Brock Bell and Kyle Templeton 8-3.
Andrey Gavrilov (Yaroslavl, Russia, Universal) and
Scott Lawrence (Letchworth, England, Cheam) teamed up to take care of Adam Milikin and Logan Hendrickson 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles, Levin defeated Lovern 6-2, 6-1 and No. 1, while Gavrilov beat Rowe 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2.
At No. 3, Maisey won 6-3, 6-1 over Bell and Lawrence defeated Templeton 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4.
Von Vogt posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Millikan at No. 5 with Kauffman beating Hendrickson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
