BLUFFTON, Ohio — Tyler Schroeder led the Earlham College baseball team with two hits on Tuesday as the Quakers fell 7-6 in 12 innings as Bluffton University.

T. J. Plummer (Aurora, IN, South Dearborn) faced two batters in the bottom of the 12th and gave up a leadoff double and a run-scoring single that ended the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.
Plummer (0-3) was Earlham's fifth pitcher on the day.
Adam Warning (Ft. Wright, KY, Covington Catholic),
Zach Lee (Lynn, IN, Randolph Southern),
Justin Broach (Centerville, OH, Centerville) and
Adam Painter (Ft. Wayne, IN, Snider) were also on the mound for the Quakers.
Bluffton scored three times in the third inning to grab an early advantage.
In the fifth, the Quakers got on the scoreboard for the first time when
Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) knocked in a run on a ground out. A bunt single by
Taylor Gibson (Cumberland, IN, Mt. Vernon) brought home another run to make it 3-2.
The Beavers (9-13, 1-6) added a run in the bottom of the frame to go on top 4-2.
With a run in the sixth and another in the seventh, Earlham was able to tie the contest.
Andrew Morrical (Summitville, IN, Madison-Grant) scored when
Ryan Hayes (New Lebanon, OH, Dixie) reached base on an error in the sixth. The next inning, Schroeder doubled to score McCray, who had tripled.
Schroeder picked up two more RBI in the ninth as he gave the Quakers a 6-4 lead with a double.
Bluffton was able to push two runs across the plate in the ninth to send the game to extra innings.
Ross Yoho (Plainfield, IN, Plainfield) and
Chris Miller (Topeka, IN, Westview) also had hits for the Quakers.
Earlham (8-12, 1-6) visits Defiance College on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader gets underway at noon.
