Quakers Have Big Offensive Day

BETHANY, W. Va. — The Earlham College field hockey team exploded on Saturday as the Quakers posted a 6-1 victory over Bethany College.

Bailey Heinzen (Glenview, IL, Glenbrook South) had two goals and an assist to lead the Quakers against the Bison (1-13). Christine Ferguson (Montclair, NJ, Montclair) also had a goal and an assist.

The six goals are the most an Earlham team has scored since the Quakers beat Franklin College 9-0 on Oct. 19, 1993.

"I thought our attack played with a real purpose today," Earlham Head Coach Jill Butcher said. "We did a nice job of forcing penalty corners and then executing on them."

"We moved the ball well and it paid off," Butcher added. "It was especially nice to see so many different players score."

The Quakers had a 3-1 lead after the first period. Heinzen scored her her first goal at 6:59.

Moments later, Kate Birdsall (Georgetown, ME, Morse ) scored an unassisted goal at 7:57. Earlham final tally of the first half came at 15:25 when Grace Braden (PeeWee Valley, KY, South Oldham) scored with an assist from Ferguson. Bethany scored at 25:25.

In the second period, Heinzen found the goal at 44:07 with an assist from Neo Khalema (Yellow Springs, OH, St. Michael's).
