DAYTON, Ohio — The Earlham College men's tennis team got back on track Friday night with an 8-1 win over Otterbein University.
The Quakers swept the doubles competition on the Dayton Center Courts to take control of the non-conference affair.
"It was a good win against a team that we beat last year in a close match," Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee said referring to last year's 5-4 victory over the Cardinals, who are currently 1-4.
Hank Levin (Dallas, TX, Highland Park) and
Anton Bartashevich (Moscow, Russia, International) won 8-3 over Otterbein's Ryan Shutt and Tyler Gibbons at No. 1 doubles.
Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Tauranga Boys) and
Andrey Gavrilov (Yaroslavl, Russia, Universal) picked up an 8-1 victory over Kendall Coffman and Andrew Sutter at No. 2.
Scott Lawrence (Letchworth, England, Cheam) and
Brent Kramer (Greenfield, IN, Eastern Hancock) defeated Eric Witt and Brad Rhoads 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles action, Bartashevich beat Ryan Roberts 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, while Gavrilov took care of def. Coffman 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
At No. 3, Maisey defeated Ryan Shutt 6-3, 6-4. Lawrence posted at 7-5, 6-3 win over Sam Lawless at No. 4.
Earlham's other win was at No. 6 as
Shin Torizuka (Itabashi-ku Tokyo, Japan, International) defeated Jacob DeVore 6-4, 6-0.
The Quakers (4-1) will look for their second straight win as they visit Wabash College on Wednesday.
"We have another big match at Wabash next week," Van Zee said. "Hopefully, this win will help us get ready for that match."
The non-conference contest gets underway at 5 p.m.
