MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Earlham College tennis teams didn't concede a single point in a sweep of Manchester University to continue HCAC action on Saturday.
The Quaker men took a 6-0 win, led by reigning HCAC Athlete of the Week
Ivan Wularu with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No.1 singles. Juan Diego Pachin Hernandez and
Christos Xirokostas also scored dominant wins at No.3 and No.4 singles respectively.
Pedro Conci Rodrigues played the closest match at No.5 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 final score.
Earlham swept the doubles point, with Wularu and Xirokostas winning No.1 6-2,
Dreek Saha and Pachon Hernandez winning 6-0 at No.2, and
Dev Agrawal and
Alonso Rivera winning 6-2 at No.3.
The Quaker women scored a 5-0 win led by Vanessa Akukau, who was also named HCAC Athlete of the Week, with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No.1 singles.
Lawrencia Manu,
Mackenzie Davis and
Paige Hobbs all won dominant singles matchups, leading to an early end to some matchups.
Natalee McCann and Hobbs won a 6-0 win at No.1 doubles, while
Ava Marroni and Davis won 6-0 at No.3. The Spartans took their only win of the day in No.2 doubles in a 7-5 battle.
Earlham is slated to take on Franklin College in the regular season finale on Saturday in the Gene Hambrick Varsity Tennis Center at 11 am.
