HANOVER, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team finished a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series at Hanover College on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to the Panthers.
Hanover (13-5, 3-0) took an early lead with a pair of unearned runs off Earlham starter
Caleb Brown (Newark, OH, Granville) in the second inning.
The Quakers got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by
Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Panthers scored the final run of the contest in the seventh inning.
Chris Miller (Topeka, IN, Westview) led the Quakers with two hits, while Williams,
Taylor Gibson (Cumberland, IN, Mt. Vernon) and
Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay) each had one hit.
Brown (2-2) worked seven innings as he gave up three runs with only one being earned on six hits with four strikeouts.
Colton Miller (Auburn, IN, Dekalb) tossed the final inning on the mound for the Quakers as he surrendered one hit.
Earlham (9-7, 0-3) is back in action on Tuesday as the Quakers entertain Wilmington College. The non-conference affair at McBride Stadium gets underway at 6 p.m.
