Quakers Visit Anderson for HCAC Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ANDERSON, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team resumed play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday as the Quakers fell 2-0 and 6-4 in a twinbill at Anderson University.

In the opener, Anderson (11-7, 4-1) scored a run in the first inning off Earlham starter Matt Brankle (Kokomo, IN, Taylor) to take an early lead.

The contest was scoreless from that point until the Ravens added the final run in the sixth inning.

Brankle (2-2) tossed his second complete game of the season as he gave up two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay) led the Quakers with two hits and a stolen base.

Game Two

Unearned runs hurt the Quakers in the second contest as the Ravens had two in the first inning to grab an early advantage.

Chris Miller (Topeka, IN, Westview) tied the game for the Quakers in the fourth with a two-run double.

The Ravens responded with two more unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth to go back on top 4-2.

Earlham answered in the sixth with Taylor Gibson (Cumberland, IN, Mt. Vernon) knocking in a run with a single to make it 4-3. Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) followed with a groundout that produced a run to tie it at 4-4.

In the eighth, the Ravens scored twice to take the lead for good.

Justin Broach (Centerville, OH, Centerville) started on the mound for the Quakers in the second game. He surrendered four unearned runs on six hits by the time he left with two outs in the fourth inning.

Colton Miller (Auburn, IN, Dekalb) got the last out of the fourth inning and then worked into the eighth. Miller (0-2) was tagged with the loss as he gave up two runs on three hits with two stikeouts.

Zach Lee (Lynn, IN, Randolph Southern) finished the eighth by giving up a hit with a pair of strikeouts.

The Quakers (10-9, 0-5) finish the three-game HCAC series against the Ravens on Sunday with a 9-inning contest in Anderson starting at 1 p.m.
