DAYTON, Ohio — The Earlham College men's tennis team posted a dominating 9-0 victory over Capital University
Wednesday night at the Dayton Center Courts.
Earlham began the match by sweeping the doubles competition over the Crusaders (3-8).
Hank Levin (Dallas, TX, Highland Park) and
Anton Bartashevich (Moscow, Russia, International) defeated Kenny Duncan and Josh Dotson 8-1 at No. 1.
Andrey Gavrilov (Yaroslavl, Russia, Universal) and
Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Tauranga Boys) teamed up to take care of John Murray and Doug Gugel-Bryant 8-3 at No. 2.
At No. 3,
Scott Lawrence (Letchworth, England, Cheam) and
Shin Torizuka (Itabashi-ku Tokyo, Japan, International) beat Andrew Collins and Adrian Tolentino 8-3.
In singles, Levin won 6-1, 6-1 over Murray at No. 1 and Bartashevich defeated Duncan 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2.
Gavrilov picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tolentino at No. 3. At No. 4, Maisey blanked Gugel-Bryant 6-0, 6-0.
Lawrence beat Dotson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, while
David Bluestein (Durham, NH, Buxton School) shutout Omer Pennington 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Quakers (6-1) are headed to Florida for three matches next week.
"It was nice to get a win with Orlando on our minds," Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee said of the upcoming Spring Break trip. "Hopefully, this will help us get off to a good start in Florida."
Earlham faces St. Scholastica on
Tuesday at 4 p.m.
