ANDERSON, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team finished its weekend series at Anderson University on Sunday with an 8-3 loss to the Ravens.
The Quakers started the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game with a run in the first inning. With one out,
Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay) singled and stole second. He scored one out later on a single by
Mark Dye (Munster, IN, Munster).
The Ravens (12-7, 5-1) responded with a run in the bottom of the first off Earlham starter
Caleb Brown (Newark, OH, Granville) to tie the contest at 1-1.
In the second inning, Anderson scored four times to build a 5-1 advantage.
With a run in the top of the third, the Quakers were able to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Tyler Schroeder (Richmond, IN, Richmond) began the frame with a single. Schroeder then stole second and eventually scored on a single by
Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North).
Anderson scored in the bottom of the third and added another run in the fourth to make it 7-2. Both teams finished the scoring with single runs in the eighth inning.
Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) knocked in the eighth inning tally for the Quakers with a RBI single.
Williams and Dye led Earlham with two hits apiece.
Brown (2-3) took the loss for the Quakers as he gave up six runs on 10 hits in three innings. He walked two and struck out two.
Adam Warning (Ft. Wright, KY, Covington Catholic) worked the next four innings and surrendered a run on a pair of hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
T. J. Plummer (Aurora, IN, South Dearborn) pitched the final inning for the Quakers and gave up a run on a hit with two strikeouts.
Earlham (10-10, 0-6) are back in action on Tuesday at McBride Stadium as the Quakers entertain the College of Mount St. Joseph. The 9-inning HCAC game gets underway at 6 p.m.
