Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio — A 7-4 victory by the Earlham College baseball team on Tuesday gave the Quakers a sweep of the season series from the College of Mount St. Joseph.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Marge Schott Stadium on the University of Cincinnati campus puts the Quakers at 14-13 overall with a 4-9 mark in the league.

Earlham's 14 wins are the most since 2009 when the Quakers finished the season at 14-22. Earlham defeated the Lions 6-5 in the other game of the series earlier this year.

Ryan Hayes (New Lebanon, OH, Dixie) got things started for the Quakers in the first inning with a RBI double.

The Lions (9-19, 2-13) eventually tied the contest with a run in the bottom of the fifth before the Quakers went back on top with a run in the sixth.

Chris Tillery (Carmel, IN, Carmel) gave the Quakers a 2-1 edge with a run-scoring single.

In the seventh, the Quakers took control of the contest with four runs.

Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) made it 4-1 with a two-run single. Williams later scored on an error by Mount St. Joseph after Hayes singled.

Ross Yoho (Plainfield, IN, Plainfield) capped the rally with a RBI single to make it 6-1.

The Lions were able to close the gap to 6-3 with a run in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Blake Welch (Lynn, IN, Randolph Southern) knocked in Earlham's last run of the affair with a single in the ninth.

Mount St. Joseph rallied in the last of the ninth by getting the bases loaded with nobody out, but Matt Brankle (Kokomo, IN, Taylor) got a double play and struck out the final batter to preserve the victory and earn a save. The Lions scored the final run of the game on the double play.

T. J. Plummer (Aurora, IN, South Dearborn) started on the mound for the Quakers, who used six pitchers in the contest. Plummer (2-1) got the win by going five innings and giving up a run on five hits with four strikeouts.

Adam Warning (Ft. Wright, KY, Covington Catholic) followed with the next two frames surrendering a run on a hit.

Nate Hube (Lebanon, OH, Lebanon) and Caleb Brown (Newark, OH, Granville) both worked in the eighth, while Garrett York (New Castle, IN, New Castle) started the ninth inning before giving way to Brankle.

Williams, Hayes, Yoho and Tillery led the Quakers with two hits each.

Earlham returns home this weekend for a three-game series against Franklin College. The opener on John Cate Field at McBride Stadium is Friday at 4 p.m. The teams meet for a doubleheader on Saturday at 3 p.m.
