EC Finishes HCAC Series with Franklin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team finished its three-game series with Franklin College on Sunday with a pair of losses to the Grizzlies on John Cate Field at McBride Stadium.

Franklin won the opener of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader 8-2 before taking the second contest 5-1.

In the first game, Franklin scored in the first inning before the Quakers responded with a run to tie the contest at 1-1. Ross Yoho (Plainfield, IN, Plainfield) hit a sacrifice fly to produce Earlham's run.

The Grizzlies (24-8, 12-6) added four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 advantage. Franklin scored twice in the fifth to go up 7-1.

Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) knocked in a run in the bottom of the fifth with a single to make it 7-2.

Franklin scored its final run in the sixth.

Yoho led the Quakers with two hits.

Matt Brankle (Kokomo, IN, Taylor) started on the mound for the Quakers and left the contest with one out in the sixth inning. Brankle (2-4) gave up eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits with two strikeouts.

Zach Lee (Lynn, IN, Randolph Southern) got the last five outs for Earlham without surrendering a hit and striking out two.

Franklin started the second game with a run in the first and had three more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Earlham scored its run in the fifth inning on a bases loaded walk to Nate Chandler (Austin, IN, Austin ). Franklin picked up its last tally in the eighth.

Mark Dye (Munster, IN, Munster) led the Quakers with two hits.

Caleb Brown (Newark, OH, Granville) pitched the first five innings for the Quakers before Adam Warning (Ft. Wright, KY, Covington Catholic) tossed the last four frames.

Brown (2-4) gave up four runs (one earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts, while Warning allowed a run on two hits. He also had a pair of strikeouts.

The Quakers (14-16, 4-12) play their final home contest of the season on Tuesday against HCAC foe Bluffton University at 6 p.m.
