Quakers Take on Pioneers

Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Earlham College baseball team opened its weekend series in Kentucky on Friday with a 5-0 loss at Transylvania University.

The Pioneers (18-16, 11-9) scored single runs in the first, third, fourth, sixth and eighth in the 9-inning Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.

Tyler Schroeder (Richmond, IN, Richmond) led the Quakers (14-18, 4-14) with a pair of singles, while Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North), Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay), Ryan Hayes (New Lebanon, OH, Dixie) and Nate Chandler (Austin, IN, Austin ) each had hits.

Justin Broach (Centerville, OH, Centerville) started on the mound for the Quakers as he tossed a complete game. In eight innings, Broach (0-3) allowed five runs on 13 hits with a strikeout.

The two teams finish the 3-game conference series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
