Quakers Win Fourth Straight

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Earlham College men's tennis team won its fourth match in a row on Wednesday as the Quakers defeated Wabash College 8-1.

"We played a very solid team that came out with upset on their mind," Earlham Head Coach Adam Van Zee said. "They play spirited tennis and it was tough to match that."

"We played well to finish off some close matches in singles, but we need to play better in the future," Van Zee added.

Earlham held a 2-1 advantage after the doubles competition with the Little Giants (3-4).

Kyle Richter (Fremont, CA, Mission San Jose) and Phillip Locklear (Springboro, OH, Springboro) defeated Wade Miller and Nate Koelper 8-4 at No. 2, while Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Tauranga Boys) and Andrey Gavrilov (Yaroslavl, Russia, Universal) won 8-1 over Ian Leonard and Phil Kubisz at No. 3.

In singles play, the Quakers swept Wabash. Anton Bartashevich (Moscow, Russia, International) beat Miller 7-5 (8-6), 2-6, 6-2 at No. 1 and Locklear won 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) over Daniel Delgado at No. 2.
