Box Score 2 FLORENCE, Ky. — The Earlham College baseball team finished its four-game weekend on Sunday at UC Health Stadium, which is the home of the Frontier League's Florence Freedom.
Otterbein University defeated the Quakers 13-4 and 8-1 in a non-conference doubleheader.
The Quakers started the opener with an early 2-0 in the first inning. Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) knocked in the first tally with a single and later in the frame Ryan Hayes (New Lebanon, OH, Dixie) blasted a triple to score Williams.
The lead didn't last as Otterbein (4-1) went on top with five runs in the second inning against Earlham starter Matt Brankle (Kokomo, IN, Taylor).
The Cardinals added five more runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 12-2.
Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) capped Earlham's scoring with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.
Brankle (0-2) left the mound with one out in the fifth and Colton Miller (Auburn, IN, Dekalb) finished the inning. Braden Richardson (Richmond, IN, Richmond) pitched the sixth and Bryce
Rainey (Greentown, IN, Eastern) tossed the seventh.
Williams and Hayes led the Quakers with two hits each.
In the second contest, Otterbein led 4-0 after scoring a run in the first and three more in the second off Earlham hurler Justin Broach (Centerville, OH, Centerville).
Williams hit a solo homer to left for Earlham's first hit of the game in the fourth.
Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay) and McCray had the other hits for the Quakers.
Broach worked until there was one out in the sixth inning when he gave way to T. J. Plummer (Aurora, IN, South Dearborn), who finished the game for the Quakers.
Next up for Earlham (3-7) is a four-game trip to Virginia. The Quakers play a doubleheader at Roanoke College on Saturday. The first game begins at noon.
