DAYTON, Ohio — The Earlham College men's tennis team maintain the top spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday as the Quakers defeated Hanover College 9-0.
Earlham, the No. 10 in the latest ITA Central Region poll, started the match by sweeping the doubles action from the Panthers (3-11, 3-3).
Phillip Locklear (Springboro, OH, Springboro) and
Kyle Richter (Fremont, CA, Mission San Jose, UC-Santa Cruz) defeated Brian Clark and Reid Clark 8-2 at No. 1.
Jack Ventura-Cruess (Placentia, CA, El Dorado) teamed up with
Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Tauranga Boys) to beat Steven Gilliam and Andrew Nice 8-1 at No. 2.
The No. 3 duo of
Scott Lawrence (Letchworth, England, Cheam) and
Andrey Gavrilov (Yaroslavl, Russia, Universal) won 8-4 over Joshua Ruse and Devon Sharpe.
In the singles competition, Locklear won 6-2, 6-0 over Gilliam at No. 1. In the second spot, Richter beat Clark 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 3, Ventura-Cruess won 6-1, 6-2 over Reid Clark, while Maisey blanked Jordan Myers 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
Lawrence outlasted Sharpe 6-4, 7-6 (10-5) in the No. 5 position.
Brent Kramer (Greenfield, IN, Eastern Hancock) defeated Nice 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Quakers (13-2, 5-0) face Manchester University and Central State University at home on Saturday. The HCAC match against the Spartans on the EC Courts begins at 10 a.m. The Central State contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
