Quakers Finish Series Against Ravens

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team dropped a pair of contests on Saturday at Anderson University.

Anderson won the opener of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader 8-2 in 12 innings, while the Ravens won the second contest 8-4 at Don Brandon Field.

The Ravens (12-15, 8-6) broke open a tight contest in the first game as they scored seven runs in the top of the 12th to pick up the victory.

The Opener

Anderson scored in the first inning for the only run of the contest until the Quakers tied the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Ethan Bailey (Greensburg, IN, Greensburg) led off the eighth inning with a single. Bailey then stole second base and went to third on a throwing error by the Anderson catcher. Bailey scored on another throwing error by the Ravens.

The Quakers scored their final tally in the 12th on a bases loaded walk to Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North).

Justin Broach (Centerville, OH, Centerville) started on the mound for the Quakers. After giving up a run on eight hits with three strikeouts, Broach left the game with one out in the ninth when he was replaced by Adam Adam Warning (Ft. Wright, KY, Covington Catholic).

Warning (1-5) was tagged with the loss. Braden Richardson (Richmond, IN, Richmond) finished the contest on the mound.

Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay, Marietta College), Josh Parr (Centerville, IN, Centerville, DePauw University) and Williams led the Quakers with two hits each.

Game Two

In the second contest, Anderson built a 6-0 advantage after two innings.
Ward got the Quakers on the scoreboard in the third inning with a run-scoring double to make it 6-1.

The Ravens got a run in the fourth and added another in the seventh.

In the bottom of the eighth the Quakers closed the gap. Ward knocked in a pair of runs with a double and Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) added a sacrifice fly to make it 8-4.

Earlham starting pitcher Nate Hube (Lebanon, OH, Lebanon) left the game with one out in the first inning. Hube (2-3) gave up four runs as he took the loss.

Garrett York (New Castle, IN, New Castle) got the final two outs of the first inning and worked through the eighth. Richardson tossed the ninth.

Ward and Mark Dye (Munster, IN, Munster) led the Quakers with two hits.

Earlham (7-22, 3-11) is scheduled to face the College of Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday. The HCAC affair at McBride Stadium starts at 3:30 p.m.
