Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Earlham College baseball team dropped a 13-5 decision to the College of Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday night.
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest with the Lions (5-13, 1-5) was at the University of Cincinnati.
The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the first inning before the Quakers cut the deficit in half with a run in the second. Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) walked and scored on a RBI ground out by Zach McFarland (Greenfield, IN, Mt. Vernon).
Mount St. Joseph added three runs in the second and another in the third to build a 6-1 advantage.
Williams scored on an error in the fourth for the Quakers to make it 6-2. The Lions made it 10-2 with four more runs in the fourth.
In the fifth, Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) knocked in a run with a ground out to make it 10-3 before the Lions scored two more runs in the bottom of the frame.
The Quakers scored their final runs in the sixth when Ethan Bailey (Greensburg, IN, Greensburg) had a run-scoring single and Thomas Rea (Indianapolis, IN, Warren Central) got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Lions put up their final tally in the seventh.
Nate Hube (Lebanon, OH, Lebanon) started on the mound for the Quakers and took the loss. He is 2-2 on the season.
Earlham (6-15, 2-5) travels to Manchester University this weekend for a three-game HCAC series. Friday's contest is at 4:15 p.m. A doubleheader starting at noon is set for Saturday.
