EC Opens HCAC Series with Hanover

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team opened a three-game series against Hanover College on Friday with a 13-10 loss to the Panthers at McBride Stadium.

Hanover scored three runs in the first inning of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest against Earlham starter Justin Broach (Centerville, OH, Centerville). Broach (1-5) left the game with one out in the fifth inning as he took the loss. Adam Warning (Ft. Wright, KY, Covington Catholic) worked the rest of the way.

The Quakers were also able to get on the scoreboard in the first inning as they cut the deficit to 3-2. Alex Arovits (Lebanon, OH, Lebanon, Eastern Kentucky) produced a run with a ground out, while Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) had a RBI single.

From that point, the Panthers added three runs in the second and two more in the third to build an 8-2 advantage.

In the fourth, Mark Dye (Munster, IN, Munster) knocked in a run for the Quakers with a single to make it 8-3.

By the seventh, Hanover held an 11-3 lead before the Quakers rallied with six runs in the eighth inning.

Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay, Marietta College) started the scoring with a two-run single. Ethan

Bailey (Greensburg, IN, Greensburg) had a RBI single to make it 11-6. Arovits capped the rally with a three-run blast to left to make it 11-9.
Unfortunately for the Quakers, Hanover (15-17, 8-11) picked up its final two runs in the ninth.

Zach McFarland (Greenfield, IN, Mt. Vernon) finished the scoring for the Quakers when he knocked in a run with a single.

Arovits led the Quakers with four hits, while Ward, Bailey, Williams and Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) had two hist each. Ward extended his Earlham single-seaon hits record to 60, while also establishing a new mark for at-bats in a season with 146.

The Quakers (7-27, 3-16) and Panthers finish the HCAC series at McBride with a doubleheader on Saturday at begins at noon.
