BLUFFTON, Ohio — The Earlham College men's tennis team won its fifth match in a row on Saturday as the Quakers defeated Bluffton University 7-2.
The Quakers, ranked in the 10th spot in the latest ITA Central Region poll, are now 12-2 overall and on top in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference at 4-0.
Earlham led 2-1 after the doubles competition against Bluffton (0-5, 0-2).
Kyle Richter (Fremont, CA, Mission San Jose, UC-Santa Cruz) and
Phillip Locklear (Springboro, OH, Springboro) blanked A.J. Haley and Matt McCoy 8-0 at No. 1, while
Brad Maisey (Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, Tauranga Boys) and
Scott Lawrence (Letchworth, England, Cheam) defeated Brock Goetz and John Oyer 8-0 in the No. 2 position.
In singles play, Locklear beat Haley 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1. Richter took care of McCoy 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
At No. 3, Maisey defeated Goetz 6-0, 6-0. The two victories puts Maisey at 118 in his career, which is at the top of Earlham's all-time list.
Lawrence won 6-2, 6-0 over Oyer at No. 4.
Brent Kramer (Greenfield, IN, Eastern Hancock) posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bryce Hodge at No. 5.
Earlham returns to action on Wednesday as the Quakers entertain Hanover College at 4 p.m.
