EC Travels to Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio — The Earlham College baseball team dropped a 13-5 decision to Bluffton University on Tuesday.

The Beavers took a 6-0 before the Quakers were able to get on the scoreboard in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.

Earlham scored all five of its runs in the fifth inning to close the cap to 6-5.

Zach McFarland (Greenfield, IN, Mt. Vernon) was hit by a pitch to start the frame and Ross Yoho (Plainfield, IN, Plainfield) followed with a walk. Ethan Bailey (Greensburg, IN, Greensburg) singled to load the bases.

Thomas Rea (Indianapolis, IN, Warren Central) drove in the first run with a single. Sam Ward (Bay Village, OH, Bay, Marietta College) then hit into force play that had Yoho out at the plate.

Ryan McCray (Lexington, KY, Henry Clay) reached base on an error by Bluffton that allowed all three runners to score to make it 6-4.

Ted Williams (Harper Woods, MI, Grosse Pointe North) knocked in the final run with a single.

Bluffton (14-12, 5-6) added six runs in the six and another in the seventh.

Williams led the Quakers with two hits.

Zach Lee (Lynn, IN, Randolph Southern) started on the mound for the Quakers. Lee (0-4) left the game with one out in the sixth and took the loss. Colton Miller (Auburn, IN, DeKalb) got the second out in the sixth and Bryce Rainey (Greentown, IN, Eastern) finished the inning. Rainey also pitched the seventh and Braden Richardson (Richmond, IN, Richmond) tossed the eighth.

The Quakers (6-19, 2-9) are back on the road on Wednesday as they visit Butler University. The non-conference contest gets underway at 3 p.m.
