Quakers Beat Wabash for First Win

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season on Wednesday as the Quakers won 7-2 at Wabash College.

Earlham led 2-1 after the doubles competition.

Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess defeated Wade Miller and Michael Makio 8-5 in the top spot.

At No. 2, Hank Levin and Scott Lawrence took care of Graham McMullen and Mazin Hakim 8-1.

In singles action, the Quakers won five contests.

Levin beat Makio 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to win at No. 2. Phillip Locklear won 6-4, 6-4 over Nate Koelper at No. 3.

In the fourth position, Jack Ventura-Cruess defeated Mark Troiano 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Lawrence outlasted Hakim 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 5.

David Bluestein picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Nathan Neal at No. 6.

Nathan Reinsma beat Harrison Schaefer  6-5 (7-3), while Oliver Smith defeated Nick Minaudo 8-3 in exhibition matches.

The Quakers are idle until Friday, March 7, when they face Capital University at the Dayton Center Courts at 5 p.m.
