EC Opens HCAC Series Against Franklin

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team opened its weekend series against Franklin College on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to the Grizzlies in Randal R. Sadler Stadium.

Franklin (12-6, 3-1) began the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest with a pair of runs in the first inning off Earlham starter Nate Hube (2-2).

The Grizzlies added two more runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The Quakers (10-6, 2-2) got on the scoreboard in the third on a RBI ground out by Ethan Bailey.

Franklin picked up its final run in the seventh.

Ryan McCray knocked in Earlham's last score with a run-scoring single in the eighth.

Hube left the mound with two outs in the sixth. With Garrett York on the mound McCray threw out a Franklin runner trying to steal second to end the frame.

York worked the seventh before giving way to Howie Smith. Smith tossed the eighth and got two outs in the ninth. Adam Warning got the last out.

Thomas Rea led the Quakers with two hits.

The two squads finish the series with a doubleheader that begins at noon in Sadler Stadium.
