Quakers Fall in Battle of Ranked Squads

DAYTON, Ohio â€" The No. 10 Earlham College men's tennis team battled another ranked team on Saturday as the Quakers fell to Denison University 6-3.

The Big Red (8-4), ranked No. 8 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men's Central Region, led 2-1 after the doubles action on the Dayton Center Courts.

Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess picked up Earlham's win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 decision over Juan Guerra and Grant Veltman.

The Quakers won two matches in singles.

Bartashevich defeated Guerra 6-1, 6-1 in the top position, while Phillip Locklear beat Andrew Marczak 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2.

Earlham (5-4) is back in action on Wednesday with a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match at Hanover College. The contest gets underway at 4 p.m.
