RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's tennis team moved into the top spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Sunday after the Quakers won 8-1 over the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The Quakers, ranked No. 10 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men's Central Region Poll, are 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
In a battle of HCAC unbeatens, the Quakers took control of the match by sweeping the doubles action from the Engineers (6-6, 6-1).
Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess took care of Brandon Benedict and Georges Adam 8-1 at No. 1. In the second position,
Phillip Locklear and Hank Levin beat Matthew Conrad and Nate Moore 8-2. At No. 3, Scott Lawrence and Andrey Gavrilov defeated Erin Miller and Ray Montgomery 8-4.
In the singles competition, Bartashevich, ranked No. 16 in the region, won 6-0, 6-3 over Brandon Benedict at No. 1.
Locklear got past Adam 6-2, 6-2, while Levin won 6-0, 6-1 over Conrad at No. 3.
At No. 4, Ventura-Cruess posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Moore. Lawrence beat Miller 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.
The Quakers entertain Central State University on Thursday for a non-conference affair at 4 p.m.
