Quakers Claim Share of HCAC Regular Season Title

RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's tennis team clinched a share of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title on Sunday with a 7-2 win over Franklin College.

The Quakers are now 13-6 overall with a 7-0 mark in the league. This is the fourth straight year the Quakers have claimed at least a share of the regular season crown. Earlham has also won 38 conference matches in a row.

Sunday's win does give the Quakers the top seed for the upcoming HCAC Tournament next weekend in Indianapolis.

Following the Senior Day celebration, the Quakers took a 2-1 after the doubles action with the Grizzlies (6-6, 4-4).

Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess defeated Ryan Hammer and Ethan Caldwell 8-1 at No. 1. Scott Lawrence and Andrey Gavrilov took care of Luke Snyder and Jared Hunt by the same score at No. 2.

The Quakers were able to put the match away during the singles competition.

Bartashevich beat Hammer 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. Phillip Locklear won 6-4, 6-3 over Caldwell at No. 2.

Hank Levin blanked Snyder 6-0, 6-0 in the third spot, while Ventura-Cruess defeated Evan Pierle 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4.

At No. 5, David Bluestein got past Robby Woehrle 6-3, 6-2.

Sunday was the final home match for Levin, Lawrence, Gavrilov, Bluestein and Matthew Foster.

Earlham finishes the regular season on Wednesday at Anderson University and victory would give the Quakers the outright regular season championship. The HCAC affair starts at 4 p.m.
