ANDERSON, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's tennis captured the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship on Wednesday with an 8-1 victory over Anderson University.
Ranked 10th in latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Men's Central Region Poll, the Quakers are now 14-6 overall and 8-0 in the conference as they claimed their fourth straight league title.
Earlham started the match with the Ravens (3-6, 3-5) by sweeping the doubles action.
Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess defeated Drew Loren and Conner Whiteside 8-6 at No. 1.
Phillip Locklear and Hank Levin beat Dillon Lockwood and Andrew Gingrich 8-2 at No. 2.
Scott Lawrence and Andrey Gavrilov blanked Ethan Hillman and Eric Beck 8-0 at No. 3.
In singles play, Bartashevich took care of Loren 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1. Locklear beat Whiteside 6-1, 6-1 in the second spot.
At No. 3, Levin shutout Lockwood 6-0, 6-0, while Ventura-Cruess beat Hillman by the same score at No. 4.
In the fifth position, Lawrence defeated Gingrich 6-2, 6-2.
The top seed in the HCAC Tournament at the West Indy Racquet Club, the Quakers face the winner of the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m. Franklin is the No. 5 seed with the No. 4 seed being Transylvania University or Defiance College. Transylvania has two HCAC matches to play on Thursday and Friday to determine the final seeding.
