Quakers Face Wittenberg

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team dropped an 8-6 decision on Wednesday to Wittenberg University in Randal R. Sadler Stadium.

A three-run inning by the Tigers in the eighth was the difference in the non-conference contest.

Wittenberg scored all three runs off Matt Brankle (0-3), who took the loss.

After giving up a run in the top of the second inning, the Quakers responded to take the lead in the bottom of the frame.

Josh Parr tied the game with a RBI triple. Parr later scored on an error and Ira Hughes came home on a wild pitch. Ted Williams finished the rally with a ground out that produced a run to make it 4-1.

The Tigers scored twice in the third and then tied the game at 4-4 with a run in the fifth.

Wittenberg took a 5-4 lead with a run in the seventh, but Earlham answered in its turn at the plate in the inning.

Parr had a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan McCray, who started the inning with a double. Thomas Rea put the Quakers in front 6-5 with a single to set the stage for the decisive eighth inning.

Bryce Rainey started on the mound for the Quakers and worked six innings surrendering four runs on seven hits. Hube gave up a run in the seventh on a hit. After Brankle tossed the eighth, T. J. Plummer threw a scoreless ninth.

Earlham (11-13, 3-8) visits Hanover College on Friday for the opener of the three-game Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference series with the Panthers. The game starts at 4 p.m.
