EC Takes Care of Pioneers

RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's tennis team won its second Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match of the season on Wednesday with an 8-1 win over Transylvania University.

The Quakers swept the doubles competition on the EC Courts to begin the affair against the Pioneers (1-6, 1-2).

Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess won 8-3 over Robert Albrecht and Josh Buckman at No. 1.

In the second spot, Scott Lawrence and Andrey Gavrilov posted an 8-4 victory over Dylan Conner and Patrick Richardson.

At No. 3, Phillip Locklear and David Bluestein teamed up to beat Stephen Mayborg and Reza Haider 8-6.

In singles action, Bartashevich knocked off Albrecht 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Locklear won 6-0, 6-0 over Conner at No. 2.

Ventura-Cruess beat Buckman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. After Lawrence won the first set 6-0 at No. 4, Richardson retired.

Gavrilov outlasted Mayborg 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 5.

Earlham (7-5, 2-0) is at the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The contest gets underway at 1 p.m.
