Quakers Sting Yellow Jackets

DEFIANCE, Ohio â€" The Earlham College women's tennis team picked up a 9-0 victory over Defiance College on Wednesday.

The Quakers swept the doubles to begin the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest and followed with the same success in singles against the Yellow Jackets (0-6, 0-4).

Claire Welsh and Anna Gubanova defeated Savannah Marquez and Nicole Tank 8-1 at No. 1. Vesta Davis and Jordyn Grimes teamed up to beat Haley Kuhlman and Bailey Marquez 8-6 at No. 2. At No. 3, Kaitlin Morgan and Arrita Domi won 8-2 over Colby Heeter and Courtney Alexander.

In singles play, Welsh took care of Savannah Marquez 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while Gubanova posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kuhlman at No. 2.

At No. 3, Ayami Shoji beat Tank 7-5, 6-1. In the fourth spot, Davis beat Bailey Marquez 6-3, 4-0.

Grimes (ECW) defeated Heeter 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 and Olivia Bispott blanked Courtney Alexander 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth position.

Earlham (2-4, 1-3) returns to the court on Saturday at Franklin College. The HCAC affair begins at noon.
