Brunners Score in Field Hockey Loss to Bethany

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ind. – Juniors Kristina and Kaitlyn Brunner both scored with less than 10 minutes to play to tie the game 2-2, but Bethany scored a penalty shot as time expired to defeat the Earlham College field hockey team 3-2 at Darrell Beane Stadium on Saturday.

Bethany (5-7) scored the game's first two goals, both coming from Bailey Boardman. Her second goal in the 56th minute gave the Bison a 2-0 lead.

Determined not to fall at home, the Quakers rallied as Kristina Brunner cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 61stdfd minute. With time winding down, Kaitlyn Brunner tied the game with her goal in the 68th minute.

The Quakers conceded a penalty corner in the 70th minute, and a handball in the circle gave Bethany a penalty shot, which Sierra Cuellar connected on for the victory.

Earlham held a 14-9 advantage in shots as well as a 10-8 edge in penalty corners. Junior Megan Hut, despite not scoring, fired six shots in the contest.

The Quakers now stand at 3-6 on the season and return to North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play on Oct. 7 at DePauw. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
